Through Study Abroad Partnerships (SAP), students can enrol in short-term programmes at renowned universities in Australia, Europe, Korea, UK and USA for intensive study and research, or undertake internship in vibrant overseas city to gain practical work skills.

 

Some host institutions will offer online learning options to their programmes this summer. You may refer to the host institution’s website for details. It would be a great opportunity for you to immerse yourself in a fruitful learning experience from the comfort of your home!

 

To participate in one of the programmes listed under SAP, you will first need to obtain the nomination offer from International Affairs Office before admittance to any of the programmes.

 


 

Eligibility Criteria

 

  • Full-time undergraduate students
  • Good academic standing: students with a CGPA 3.0 or above have a relatively higher chance of getting a placement in the programme
  • Outgoing and eager to meet new challenges
  • Ready to be an ambassador of HKU
  • Willing to share exchange experience after the study

 


 

Points to Note Before You Apply

 

  • You are reminded that the teaching mode and availability of the programme is subject to change. Please visit the programme websites for more information on the latest teaching arrangement.
  • Although the pandemic situation remains fluid, you are encouraged to apply and our office will be here to provide support as best as we can.
  • When applying to participate in a short-term programme, you will then be automatically considered for a scholarship or allowance. No separate application will be needed.
  • Some programmes may only be offered for a certain application period. You are advised to check the programme details and to apply as soon as possible. Due to limited quota, priority will be given to those who apply early.
  • After receiving the nomination offer from IAO, you will need to submit an application to the host institution directly.
  • Application deadline for each programme varies, please refer to the host institution’s programme page for the application deadlines.

University of Glasgow – International Summer School

The course is open to students who meet eligibility requirements as well as nominated students from the University of Hong Kong and Zhejiang University. It is co-hosted by the College of Arts and the Hunterian Museum combining an introduction to contemporary cultural practices with an analysis of their historical, cultural and socio-economic roots. With Scotland as the primary example, the course enables you to study a variety of art forms (theatre, music, dance, visual arts) via trips to performance venues and museums. You can undertake significant hands-on research with artefacts both at the Hunterian and in Special Collections at the University of Glasgow, and participate in class discussions of theories, methodologies, and interpretation of cultural practices.

Application Procedures to SAP

 

  1. Apply through Online Application System
    • Specify up to 5 Programme Choices

 

  1. Upload required Supporting Documents
    • Personal Statement (maximum 100 words)
    • Academic record: Official transcript/screen capture(s) of academic results from HKU Portal:

For non-first-year students: with your latest CGPA

For first-year students: with the list of courses you are taking

 

  1. Submit the Optional Documents to the online application system
    • TOEFL/IELTS report (applicable if it is part of the programme-specific requirement)

 

  1. Accept the offer by paying a deposit of HKD2,000 (please refer to Deposit Payment Instruction) and submit the payment slip to the online application system by the given deadline.
    Note: The deposit is refundable upon your completion of the programme and the submission of your report. Under normal circumstances, no deposit shall be refunded if you withdraw from the programme after accepting the offer or if you fail to complete the programme.
     
  2. Upon completion of Short-term Study Abroad Programme, please submit programme report and response to evaluation questionnaire by the designated deadline.

 


 

Application to Host Institution

 

After your offer is confirmed, you may apply to the host institution.

 

  • Please visit the host institution’s website and apply directly to the host institution.
  • Make sure you have fulfilled the eligibility requirements as stated by the host institution.
  • Most institutions require a scanned copy of the official transcript issued by HKU for their application. Please allow sufficient time to apply and no late submissions will be allowed.
  • Receive an official admission offer from the host institution.
  • Pay the programme fees to the host institution or to HKU, where applicable.
  • Lodge your visa application and prepare for the departure. Visa applications to the U.S. will take a substantial amount of time and effort, so please ensure you initiate your visa application as soon as you can.

 


 

Financial Assistance for Short-term Programmes

 

In order to be eligible for financial assistance, a student must complete at least 2 weeks of the programme or above physically at the host institution/organisation and host country. Therefore, financial assistance will NOT be available to online short-term programmes.

 

You will be automatically considered for a scholarship or allowance if you apply for SAP. A separate application is not necessary.

 

In all the merit-based funding provided by the Registry offices in support of study abroad, each student is only eligible to receive the value that equals the largest award throughout his/her undergraduate studies. Should a student receive more than one award, he/she may be required to return the prior award to the University.
