Hong Kong experiences a sub-tropical climate with temperate conditions for a significant portion of the year.
From May to October, it is usually hot and humid with occasional showers and thunderstorms, especially in the morning.
November and December are considered the best months, characterised by pleasant breezes, ample sunshine and comfortable temperatures.
January and February are cloudier with occasional cold fronts and dry winds, and average temperatures range from 10°C to 15°C (40°F–59°F). Winter clothing is needed.
March and April are milder but can be very cool with some fog and light rain.
From May to November, Hong Kong is susceptible to tropical cyclones, with July to September being the most likely months for their occurrence. Severe weather phenomena such as strong winter and summer monsoons, monsoon troughs and thunderstorms with squalls are most frequent from April to September. Waterspouts, hailstorms, snow and tornadoes are rare occurrences in Hong Kong.
