About the Programme

Ritsumeikan University traces its origins to 1869, when Prince Kinmochi Saionji founded it as a private academy on the grounds of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Today, Ritsumeikan is recognised as one of Japan’s leading private universities, with campuses in Kyoto, Shiga (Biwako-Kusatsu), and Osaka (Ibaraki). The university offers a wide range of advanced courses across 16 colleges and 22 graduate schools.

Renowned for its international outlook, Ritsumeikan consistently ranks among the top Japanese private universities in the QS World University Rankings and has been part of the Top Global University Project since 2014. The university attracts students from across Japan and around the world, and its main campus in historic Kyoto provides an inspiring environment for study and research.
