About the Programme
Established as the Western Australia’s first university in 1911 and founded with a mission to ‘advance the prosperity and welfare of our communities’, The University of Western Australia opened in 1913 to just 184 students. Today, more than 25,000 students are enrolled from 100 countries.
Since its beginnings, UWA has blazed the trail in producing remarkable and life-changing contributions across learning, teaching and research. More than simply a centre for education and research, UWA has contributed to the intellectual, cultural and economic development of Western Australia, the nation and the world for more than 100 years.
UWA students are uniting with the University's teaching, research and industry communities to take on some of the world’s most complex problems. These Grand Challenges are deep and difficult issues, with no clear solutions, that require new ways of working across disciplines and sectors to address. UWA's Grand Challenges program sees up-and-coming changemakers working together to drive ongoing transformation and positive impact.
