About the Programme
The University of Auckland was formally opened on 23 May 1883 as Auckland University College, part of the University of New Zealand. A disused courthouse and jail served as premises for the 95 students and four teaching staff. Today, the University of Auckland is the largest university in New Zealand, hosting over 44,000 students from over 120 different countries on five Auckland campuses.
As New Zealand's pre-eminent research-led institution, the University of Auckland has more than 13,000 stand and postgraduate students involved in fundamental and applied research, and generates around $230 million in annual research revenue. It is the top performer across all three component areas of the New Zealand government's assessment of research output and quality.
The University of Auckland offers an impressive range of study options across more than 150 different undergraduate subjects and 130 postgraduate programmes. And with the highest concentration of top-ranked researchers in the country, students are able to learn from the best.
