About the Programme
Founded in 1867, Illinois is among the nation’s most prominent research institutions (FY17 research expenditures of $664 million). From the development of the modern web browser, to the discovery of the Archaea, to the transistor, to revolutionary photosynthesis advances, Illinois has a long-standing history of life-changing innovations. Researchers have made foundational discoveries that change the way we understand the microbial world, developed the technology that enables modern electronic devices, pioneered agricultural practices that feed the world, and shaped government policies that protect the vulnerable in our society. The campus is home to more than 47,000 undergraduate and graduate students and nearly 2,000 faculty members from more than 110 nations. With about 13,000 degrees awarded annually, with about 1,000 at the doctoral level, Illinois is among the largest providers of new graduates in the nation each year.
